How Contract Signing / E-Signatures Works

How do I create a contract in Paperbell?

Contracts are associated with packages. Go to your packages page and click on or create a package. You’ll find contracts in the “contract” tab.

Can I see an example of what a signed contract will look like?

Yes! Here’s an example contract. You can see HelloSign’s audit trail feature shows the exact details of the contract signing.

How do I customize certain fields in my contract?

Your contract will be generic to everyone who buys the package, so the contract should describe name, pricing, etc of the one package. (Or you can skip these details and just put in the general terms of working with you.) You can not not customize any fields to be filled out within the contract.

Where in the client onboarding process do contracts live?

From your client’s perspective, the flow works like this:

1. Scheduling (if there are appointments to be booked)
2. Contract Signing (if a contract is part of the package)
3. Payment (if there is payment to be made)

This ensures that clients cannot complete the process (payment) until they have agreed to your contract. To be clear, bookings are only held once client has completed checkout.

What will my client see exactly?

Your client will read through your contract then sign a signature page at the end (either by typing in their signature or drawing it). Here’s what that process looks like for them:electronic signature coaching contract

How do I modify my PDF to show where my client should sign?

You don’t need to! Hellosign inserts a signature page at the end of your contract. The image below shows what it looks like while your client is signing, here’s a sample contract to see what the finished product looks like.

Will I also sign my contract?

You will not sign your own contract, so if you’d like it to be signed by you make sure to include your signature in the contract PDF that you upload to Paperbell.

This allows your client to complete the contract instantly, instead of waiting for both of your e-signatures.

What should I put in my contract?

We have some advice about that here!

Should I have a contract or just terms and conditions?

It’s up to you and your legal advisor. Many coaches feel comfortable just having custom terms and conditions which are automatically agreed to in Paperbell when a client books or purchases.
If you want to make extra sure that your client reviews everything, we’d recommend also using a contract.

Are your contracts legally binding?

We parter with HelloSign (a Dropbox company) to provide our signing technology. HelloSign contracts are legally binding.

What file format are contracts?

Contracts are PDF files.

Where can I find my completed contracts?

Go to your client’s Paperbell profile, then click the name of the package with an associated contract. Click “show” to find the signed contract.

Where can my client find their copy of the contract?

Your client can find their contract by logging in at https://app.paperbell.com/client clicking on packages, then clicking contract under the appropriate package.

What should I include in my contract? Do you have an example?

We recommend the contracts from Coaches & Company. ICF also provides a free sample coaching agreement. Or you can read our blog post about the topic.

How can I include a contract when I “gift” a package?

There currently is not a way to include contract signing as part of a “gifted” package inside Paperbell. In this situation, we suggest creating a private free package for that client and sending them the link to sign up. That way, contract signing can be included.
